Chania

Harbour city of the Crete island, boasting very ancient origins, dating back to the Minoan period, it preserves today a typical fascination linked to the subsequent Venetian and Turkish dominions.
The bastions sorrounding the city with walls dating back to 1538 bear witness of the Venetian presence on the island, as well as the old houses in the city centre still wearing the Venetian coat of arms. The bright and full colours are, instead, legacy of the Ottoman Empire, as well as some other edifices like the harbour’s mosque and the minarets.
Kastelli district, too, deserves a visit, dominating the western dock. It used to be the oldest nucleus of the city, as witnessed by the Minoic ruins.

For sea lovers, right in the city there is Nea Hora beach, situated Westbound from the Venetian walls, and the beach at the East of the walls.
At a short distance from the centre you will meet the Chrissi Akti Bay, ‘golden beach’: three beaches with clear and low waters.
The Souda peninsula nearby hosts the longest beach in the whole of Greece: Georgioupolis.
